Japanese electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft manufacturer SkyDrive is making notable strides in its expansion into the United States market. The company has entered into a strategic agreement with Florida-based Aeroauto Global to purchase eight SKYDRIVE (SD_05) aircraft, which are scheduled to be delivered in two phases—four in 2028 and four in 2029. This move signifies SkyDrive’s intent to solidify its presence in the US and accelerate the adoption of advanced urban air mobility solutions.

Concurrent with the aircraft purchase, SkyDrive has extended its partnership with SAI Flight, aiming to operate in Florida, where SAI currently maintains its second-largest base. These collaborations are part of a broader regional strategy that leverages the operational ecosystem established in South Carolina and Aeroauto’s infrastructure and tourism markets in Florida. Together, these efforts are expected to facilitate a seamless rollout of SkyDrive’s eVTOL services, with the goal of launching commercial operations by 2028.

Industry outlook and future prospects

According to Tomohiro Fukuzawa, CEO of SkyDrive, the company is focused on demonstrating a viable American business foundation through active supply chain development and regional partnerships. These initiatives support SkyDrive's ambition to lead the next-generation mobility revolution in Florida and the Southeastern US. The partnership with Aeroauto aims to promote social acceptance of eVTOLs, integrating them into daily transportation and logistics.

Representatives from Aeroauto and SAI Flight expressed optimism about the potential for urban air mobility growth in Florida, emphasizing infrastructure development and operational expertise. With regulatory support and increasing market interest, SkyDrive envisions establishing a sustainable operational network that will serve as a model for future eVTOL deployments across the country.
