Smart Aviation (Indonesia) has officially commenced operations on subsidized regional routes, including Singkep, after winning a government tender. The airline now operates using Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft, aiming to strengthen connectivity in remote areas of Indonesia. These routes are part of broader public service obligations, supporting regional development efforts.
The airline’s fleet, consisting of single turboprops, is designed for short-haul and less accessible destinations, providing vital transportation links in Eastern Indonesia. Its agreements include routes to Nabire and Langgur in Maluku, aligning with national transportation goals.
Government officials highlighted that Smart Aviation’s expansion will enhance accessibility for local communities and bolster regional economic growth. The carrier’s focus on regional routes underscores Indonesia’s commitment to improving air connectivity across its many islands.
