Solomon Airlines is undertaking a temporary fleet change to maintain its domestic service schedules. The airline's De Havilland DHC-8-100, msn 289, aged approximately 34.7 years, is scheduled for a scheduled C-check maintenance starting April 11, 2026. During this period, the airline will deploy an Airbus A320-200 aircraft on domestic routes between Honiara and Munda beginning April 13, 2026.
This measure ensures continuous coverage of the airline's core schedule, which currently operates with seven aircraft, serving 30 destinations and covering 50 routes daily. The DHC-8-100 has been in operation since 2012, configured with 37 seats in an all-economy layout, and previously experienced mechanical issues in September 2025.
Operational Adjustments and Fleet Details
Throughout the maintenance period, Solomon Airlines will suspend services to Arona and Lomlom but will use the A320-200 to support its domestic schedule. The airline's fleet includes mainly De Havilland aircraft, complemented by this temporary deployment to meet operational demands.
Officials confirmed that the DHC-8-100, H4-SOL, will return to service following its scheduled check, and the airline continues to adapt its routes based on operational needs. The maintenance and fleet flexibility demonstrate Solomon Airlines’ commitment to maintaining reliable domestic connectivity amid ongoing fleet management challenges.
