Sphere Drones has received approval from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) under the new Broad Area BVLOS Self-Assessment framework, enabling it to conduct beyond visual line of sight drone operations across Australia. This milestone represents a significant advancement for the country's drone industry, allowing Sphere to accelerate deployments in sectors such as mining, utilities, and infrastructure. The approval underscores Sphere's investment in building a robust BVLOS ecosystem, supported by its proprietary remote systems, Sphere HubX and HubT.
According to CEO Paris Cockinos, the approval is the culmination of years of technological development and collaboration. Chief Remote Pilot Elliot Cummins described it as a watershed moment for the company, emphasizing their ability to operate safely and confidently beyond traditional limits. Additionally, Sphere has published the Broad Area BVLOS CASA Trial Guide, a comprehensive resource to help other operators navigate CASA’s evolving regulations.
This rapid deployment capability is complemented by Sphere's on-site manufacturing, which allows clients to deploy fully operational BVLOS systems within a week. The company’s approach minimizes downtime and enhances real-world operational readiness. As CASA transitions to a performance-based regulation model, Sphere is positioned at the forefront, leading Australia's safe and scalable BVLOS drone operations.
