Spring Airlines has announced ambitious plans to significantly expand its fleet of Airbus narrowbody aircraft to 200 units by 2031, with a target of approximately 300 aircraft by 2035. The carrier maintains a strategy of exclusively operating Airbus A320 family aircraft, as disclosed by Vice President Zhang Wuan during Routes Asia 2026.
In a recent interview, Zhang emphasized that the airline intends to continue its all-Airbus approach and avoid acquiring widebody aircraft, citing current market conditions. The airline expects to add around 30 aircraft in 2026 to bolster its international expansion efforts and to enhance its presence on medium-haul routes, primarily within a 1,200-kilometer range.
Current Fleet and Future Orders
Presently, Spring Airlines operates a fleet of 134 aircraft with an average age of seven years, including seventy-five A320-200s, forty-seven A320-200Ns, and A321-200NX units. The airline previously announced an order for twenty-four A320-200Ns and six A321-200Ns, scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2032, supporting its growth ambitions.
The company seeks to capitalize on regional demand, offering competitive medium-haul services as an alternative to high-speed rail. The strategy underlines its focus on domestic and regional markets with hubs at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, continuing to prioritize Airbus aircraft types for its fleet expansion.
