StarFlyer, a regional airline based in Kitakyushu, is aiming to expand its international network in East Asia under its 2026-2028 medium-term growth strategy. The airline plans to shift from a domestic-focused recovery approach to a phase of global growth, targeting a 1.5x increase in available seat kilometres by the end of the 2028-2029 financial year. Its revenue goal for the period is JPY62 billion (USD 395 million), with an operating profit target of JPY4-5 billion (USD 25-32 million).
The carrier is set to relaunch its flights between Kitakyushu and Taipei Taoyuan on September 2, 2026, following a scheduled restart. This move marks a significant step in its international expansion plans, as the airline seeks to bolster its presence in East Asia.
Strategic Outlook and Financial Goals
StarFlyer's strategy includes growing its fleet, increasing destinations, and improving operational capacity. The airline's current operational base is in Kitakyushu, with a fleet of 11 aircraft, servicing 7 destinations across 6 routes, and operating around 64 daily flights. Its focus on corridors within East Asia aims to capitalize on regional travel demand and strengthen its competitive position.
Official statements highlight the company's intent to leverage its domestic success to support international growth, supported by new flight routes and partnerships planned for the upcoming years. The restart of flights to Taipei is part of a broader effort to rebuild international routes that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a view towards a sustained recovery and expansion.
