Recent research by FedEx highlights a significant increase in trade activities between Asia-Pacific and Europe as of September 2025. The survey, involving over a thousand SMEs from both regions, demonstrates a 30-month streak of sustained growth along this critical trade corridor, driven by heightened consumer demand, competitive Asian offerings, and strategic expansion initiatives.
Key markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France are leading the charge in the UK, while China, Japan, and South Korea are forecasted to remain pivotal growth drivers in the next two years. Despite the optimistic outlook, many SMEs face challenges related to regulatory shifts, customs procedures, and market volatility. Over 80% of surveyed businesses recognize the need for improved digital tools and customs expertise to navigate these hurdles effectively.
Enhancing Logistics and Connectivity
FedEx has responded by increasing its flight capacity, adding five weekly flights connecting Asia to Europe, and reducing shipment times, thereby facilitating smoother cross-border commerce. Salil Chari, FedEx's Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific Marketing, stated that leveraging global networks and technological advancements is crucial for SMEs aiming to expand and trade confidently amid ongoing global trade shifts.
The survey underscores the vital role logistics providers play in supporting the growth and resilience of international trade, and indicates that many businesses plan to further expand their trade routes in the coming years, leveraging enhanced logistics solutions and digital innovations.
