Recent surveys indicate that a significant majority of IndiGo airline passengers are in favor of utilizing legal mechanisms such as Class Action provisions under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 to address service deficiencies. The survey, conducted by LocalCircles, was prompted by the airline's recent cancellation of hundreds of flights, which stranded thousands of travelers across India.
Passengers expressed frustrations with issues related to refunds, delayed reimbursements, and inadequate compensation, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction. The survey, which gathered over 30,000 responses from 303 districts nationwide, revealed that 87 percent of respondents support the government or consumer authorities taking action through the Class Action route against the airline.
Context and Background
The airline has faced criticism not only for cancellations but also for refund integrity, with many travelers reporting refunds below the fare paid despite assurances of full refunds. The survey addressed whether the Consumer Protection Act should be invoked to hold the airline accountable for service failures.
"A significant proportion of passengers believe that legal avenues such as Class Action can effectively address systemic issues in airline service quality," said a spokesperson from LocalCircles.
This comes amid broader concerns about the handling of cancellations, refunds, and passenger support, highlighting the need for stronger consumer protections in the aviation sector. Many affected travelers are hopeful that authorities will take robust action, ensuring accountability and better service standards moving forward.
