Swissport International, a global leader in aviation services, has announced a strategic partnership with UNEX Aviation Services, a Jakarta-based ground handling company. This joint venture signifies Swissport’s entry into Indonesia, a key Asian market experiencing rapid growth in aviation activity. The companies plan to expand their operations across multiple airports, offering cargo, ramp handling, and passenger services to accommodate Indonesia’s increasing air traffic.
UNEX, established over 40 years ago, operates at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, providing warehousing and ground handling services, and holds licenses for nationwide operations. Swissport’s President and CEO Warwick Brady emphasized Indonesia’s significance as a fast-growing market, with projections indicating it will become the fourth-largest worldwide by 2030. The country’s intricate geography, featuring over 17,000 islands, makes air transport essential for connectivity and economic development.
Regional Expansion and Future Outlook
This move builds on Swissport's existing presence in Asia-Pacific, including operations in China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. The partnership aims to leverage Swissport’s global expertise with UNEX’s local knowledge, supporting the long-term growth of Indonesia’s aviation sector. With 101 million passengers recorded in 2024 and approximately one million tonnes of air freight volume, Indonesia offers substantial opportunities for expansion and increased connectivity.
