Tanzania has celebrated International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) 2025 with a focus on strengthening safety standards, infrastructure, and public engagement in the aviation sector. The event, held at the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) headquarters in Ukonga, underscored the country's dedication to modern, environmentally friendly airspace and regional connectivity.

Engineer Furaha Sanga, Acting Director General of TCAA, highlighted how aviation supports Tanzania’s economy and tourism, from Zanzibar’s coast to the shipment of produce. The ceremony featured the hoisting of the ICAO flag, symbolizing Tanzania's commitment to global safety and sustainability standards aligned with the ICAO theme, "Safe Skies & Sustainable Future for All."

Beyond celebrations, TCAA announced plans for system upgrades, including radar and navigation improvements, and the construction of a new Civil Aviation Training Centre campus. The authority also emphasized preparations for the upcoming ICAO USOAP audit scheduled for April 2026, aiming to demonstrate compliance with international safety benchmarks.

These investments aim to transform Tanzania into a regional aviation hub, extending safety and reliability to support tourism and economic growth. The country already ranks fourth in Africa for air safety, reflecting increased confidence in its skies. The reforms are expected to enhance travelers’ experiences, ensuring safer, more connected journeys across Tanzania’s scenic destinations like Serengeti, Zanzibar, and Kilimanjaro.

Looking ahead, TCAA reiterated its mission to improve aviation systems in line with international standards, attracting more international airlines and supporting Tanzania’s goal of becoming a sustainable and preferred travel destination. The commitment to safety, modern infrastructure, and stakeholder collaboration signals a promising future for the country’s aviation industry.
