Thai Airways has announced plans to equip its entire fleet of 34 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with the advanced in-flight connectivity (IFC) solution developed by Neo Space Group (NSG). This move marks the first time a global airline has installed NSG’s multi-orbit IFC system as a line-fit during aircraft manufacturing, rather than retrofitting after delivery.
The NSG Skywaves® system will enable broadband speeds of up to 200 Mbps, supporting high-speed passenger Wi-Fi and operational requirements. By opting for factory integration, Thai Airways aims to deliver fully connected aircraft from the first day of operation, reducing costs and downtime associated with aftermarket modifications.
The IFC system leverages SES’s Open Orbits™ network that combines Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites for low latency and Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites for stability and global coverage, ensuring continuous, reliable connectivity throughout flights. The system incorporates the ThinKom Ka2517 antenna, a proven multi-orbit device installed on more than 1,700 aircraft worldwide, to create a seamless and resilient onboard experience.
NSG has already activated its solution on over 350 aircraft, with additional units in backlog. As a company under Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), NSG aims to support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 through digital transformation in aviation. This initiative demonstrates the airline’s commitment to high-quality connectivity and positions the Kingdom as a growing player in the global space economy.
