Starting in 2026, Thailand will implement increased travel-related fees as part of a broader effort to bolster its tourism infrastructure and aviation safety measures. The government has announced a hike in the Passenger Service Charge at major international airports, which will rise by approximately 53%, from 730 baht to 1,120 baht per passenger. These funds are designated for airport upgrades, terminal expansions, and operational improvements to accommodate rising international tourist numbers.

In addition, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has confirmed that the aviation passenger fee will increase from 15 to 25 baht, effective February 1, 2026. Thailand is also contemplating the introduction of a tourist entry fee of around 300 baht for outbound visitors, intended to finance travel insurance and further develop tourism infrastructure across the country.

Impact on the Travel Sector

These fee increases are expected to influence the overall cost of traveling to Thailand, with airlines likely to pass on the additional charges to travelers. Despite concerns about higher costs, Thailand remains a popular and competitive destination in the Asia-Pacific region. The government emphasizes that the revenue generated will be reinvested into critical infrastructure, safety enhancements, and tourism management, aiming to provide a better travel experience for visitors.

Industry experts note that while these costs may initially raise prices, the investments are designed to upgrade facilities and improve safety standards, contributing to sustainable tourism growth. The adjustments reflect broader regional trends where countries seek to balance tourism expansion with infrastructural and environmental sustainability.

Overall, 2026 represents a pivotal year for Thailand’s tourism industry, with these new fees projected to support developments that ensure long-term competitiveness and visitor satisfaction, securing the country’s position as a leading travel destination in Asia.
