The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has announced initiatives to control airfare prices during the upcoming Songkran festival, amid ongoing disruptions related to the Middle East conflict. The authority is collaborating with six airlines to offer discounts ranging from 15% to 30% on selected routes, while increasing capacity by over 29,000 seats during the holiday period.
The CAAT has been closely monitoring the regional conflict, which has impacted aviation operations and disrupted connectivity through Middle Eastern transit hubs. Although flights between Thailand and Europe largely continue unaffected, some travelers have opted for direct services to avoid transit delays or higher fares, often connecting through alternative hubs such as China.
Airline Adjustments and Passenger advisories
Several Middle Eastern airline services have resumed with limited capacity, but passengers are advised to verify flight statuses and airline restrictions. The authorities are working with airlines including Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and Thai Vietjet to expand capacities and lower ticket prices for the holiday period from April 10–15. These airlines will reduce fares across 11 round-trip routes, including the route between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, to ease travel expenses.
"We are committed to providing affordable travel options during peak periods while ensuring safety and operational efficiency," said ACM Manat Chuanprayoonsuk, CAAT's director-general. Travelers are encouraged to plan their trips carefully and stay updated on flight information, especially when transiting through volatile regions.
