Transport Canada has granted type certification for ATR’s -600 series aircraft, including the ATR 42‑600 and ATR 72‑600 models. This certification allows the latest generation of these regional turboprops to be operated by Canadian airlines.
The ATR 42‑600 and ATR 72‑600 are equipped with Thales’s five‑screen glass cockpit and Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127XT‑M engines. These features enhance operational efficiency and pilot situational awareness.
Canadian regional airline Rise Air will be the launch operator to operate two ATR 72‑600 aircraft. Based in Saskatoon, Rise Air operates a fleet of 25 aircraft serving 27 communities across Saskatchewan, providing vital regional connectivity. Additionally, Hydro‑Québec, the Quebec-based public utility, ordered three ATR 72‑600s last year as part of their fleet renewal strategy, with options for additional aircraft.
Currently, over 50 ATR aircraft of earlier versions are in operation across Canada, mainly in cargo roles. The certification of the -600 series marks a significant milestone for ATR’s presence in the Canadian market, supporting regional growth and fleet modernization efforts.
