The longstanding UAE conglomerate AlHind is set to begin domestic airline operations in India after obtaining initial approval from Indian civil aviation authorities. The company, which has a significant presence in the UAE and global interests in hospitality and logistics, plans to operate AlHind Air with a fleet of ATR 72-600 aircraft, along with Airbus A320s for its Middle East routes. The airline aims to provide affordable fares and minimal staffing to cater primarily to the expatriate population within India. Its initial routes are expected to connect several Indian states, including Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Goa, with the UAE. This strategic move follows the recent Indian government approval through a 'no-objection certificate,' a step that aligns with the group’s ambition for regional expansion and competitiveness. The group’s chairman, Mohammad Haris, confirmed last year that the airline would start with three flights and aims to reach international operations rapidly, initially targeting the UAE as the first destination. The development is seen as a response to the recent crisis faced by IndiGo, which caused widespread cancellations and delays, motivating the company to bolster domestic competition in the Indian market.
