A United Airlines jet with 231 passengers and crew narrowly avoided a serious accident on Sunday after its wheel clipped a light post and a truck while approaching Newark Liberty International Airport. The Boeing 767 safely landed from Venice, Italy, and investigators from the FAA and local authorities are reviewing the incident.
According to initial reports from New Jersey State Police, during final approach, the aircraft's landing gear struck a pole and a tractor-trailer on a highway near the airport. The collision caused the pole to hit a Jeep, which was also traveling on the road. Fortunately, no injuries were reported onboard the aircraft; the truck driver sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized but later released.
United Airlines flight 169, which was carrying 221 passengers and 10 crew members, was involved in this incident around 2 pm local time. Authorities are investigating whether any procedural or environmental factors contributed to the event, emphasizing ongoing safety protocols during landings near busy roadways. The airline has expressed commitment to safety and reliability in their operations.
