United Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321-200XLR aircraft equipped with Pratt & Whitney GTF Advantage engines, marking a significant development in its fleet expansion. The aircraft, msn 12820, was delivered from Hamburg in late September 2026 and entered commercial service by September 30, operating between Tampa and Amarillo.
This new variant of the A321XLR offers enhanced performance with increased thrust and longer range, thanks to the GTF Advantage engines. Pratt & Whitney claims the engines provide 4-8% more takeoff thrust and support aircraft longer on wing, facilitating more extensive route options for United Airlines.
United’s first A321-200XLR entered service in August 2026 after delivery in June from Hamburg, and the airline already has plans to receive more units. The airline operates a large fleet of Airbus aircraft, including 74 standard A321-200NX models, with further deliveries expected in the coming months.
The delivery and introduction of these aircraft underline United Airlines’ commitment to modernizing its fleet with fuel-efficient and long-range aircraft, thereby enhancing its route connectivity and operational efficiency.
