The Dubai Airshow 2025 is set to spotlight significant developments in the aviation industry, including fleet expansion plans among Gulf carriers such as Middle East Airlines, which is considering doubling its fleet size through new orders. The event also features demonstrations of innovative aircraft and mobility solutions.

Korean Air has achieved a milestone by completing the country's first urban air mobility flight demonstration, confirming its capabilities in air taxi operations with helicopter trials. In partnership, Korean Air has also agreed with Archer to purchase up to 100 Midnight eVTOL aircraft, reflecting a broader industry shift toward electric and hybrid aircraft solutions.

Emerging Electric and E-VTOL Aircraft

Airlines and startups are exploring electric aircraft to serve remote regions. Air New Zealand is trialing Beta's CX300 electric aircraft, which it plans to purchase in significant numbers. Alaskan cargo operators are also adopting this technology to connect isolated communities, supporting their operations in 73 remote Alaskan locations, including native tribes.

This innovative approach aims to transform regional connectivity, especially in hard-to-reach areas, said industry experts.

Scotland is investigating electric seagliders such as the Viceroy as a sustainable alternative to ferries, while Japanese airline ANA is expanding its eVTOL alliance with Joby, which will showcase its four-passenger aircraft at the upcoming Expo 2025 in Osaka.

Start-ups like Elfly are working to connect coastal communities with its Noemi electric amphibious aircraft, fulfilling their commitment to purchase five of these nine-passenger models. Overall, the Dubai Airshow provides a platform to explore these new technologies and their potential to revolutionize air travel and regional mobility.
