In Washington, US Senator Jerry Moran emphasized the importance of reviewing past allocations before approving additional funds for the nation's air traffic control modernization program. Despite supporting increased funding, the senator highlighted the need for accountability and transparency in the expenditure of the initial $12.5 billion allocated in 2025.

During the Regional Airline Association’s Leaders Conference, Moran spoke about the potential for additional federal financial support, noting that current requests range between $27 billion and $30 billion. He explained that discussions are underway regarding reconciliation processes or emergency supplemental funding to secure extra resources needed to prevent failure of the existing system.

The senator also addressed the ROTOR Act, legislation prompted by a 2025 midair collision involving a regional jet and a US Army helicopter near Reagan National Airport. The bill mandates the integration of ADS-B In collision avoidance technology into flight decks, a requirement currently under discussion between Congress' chambers. Moran expressed willingness to work toward a compromise that considers airline concerns over compliance timelines, advocating for comprehensive safety measures.

Overall, Moran stressed the necessity of prudence in funding decisions and the importance of implementing advanced safety technology to ensure the robustness of US airspace management.
