Uzbekistan Airways has increased its commitment to the Boeing B787-9 aircraft by adding eight firm orders, raising its total fleet to 22 units of this type. The airline announced the conversion of previously secured options during the C5+1 Summit held in Washington, DC. The airline's current fleet includes seven B787-8s and six B767-300ERs, but it remains unclear whether the new B787-9s will replace older aircraft or contribute solely to fleet growth.
The airline initially announced an order for 14 B787-9s in September, with deliveries expected to begin in 2031. The recent option conversion aligns Uzbekistan Airways with regional competitors such as Air Astana and Somon Air, which are also expanding their fleets with similar aircraft. During the summit, regional airlines disclosed their future aircraft commitments, indicating a significant fleet enhancement in Central Asia.
Strategic Fleet Development
Uzbekistan Airways operates a scheduled carrier base at Tashkent International Airport, with 94 daily flights covering 70 destinations. The airline also maintains a presence in international markets, with recent agreements and fleet expansion plans designed to strengthen its regional and international connectivity.
This development signifies Uzbekistan Airways' strategic focus on modernizing its fleet and increasing operational capacity with fuel-efficient aircraft, supporting increased passenger and cargo movements in the region.
