Viasat, a global leader in satellite communications, has announced a significant enhancement to its JetXP in-flight broadband service for business aviation. The company plans to integrate Telesat Lightspeed's Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite capacity with its existing Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) capabilities, including the advanced ViaSat-3 satellites.
This multi-orbit strategy aims to deliver reliable, high-throughput connectivity with improved redundancy and global coverage, addressing the demands of modern business travelers. JetXP is specifically designed to intelligently route data between GEO and LEO satellites in real-time, optimizing performance for latency-sensitive applications such as video conferencing and cloud collaboration across multiple devices.
According to the company, these multi-orbit features will be available as a single offering on selected plans, using a flat-panel Electronically Steered Antenna (ESA) that integrates seamlessly with existing antennas. Viasat also plans to introduce its innovative In-flight Quality of Experience (iQe) metric, which uses AI and analytics to monitor network performance and deliver a comprehensive QoE score.
Viasat's Aviation President, Don Buchman, highlighted the company's 35-year history of in-flight connectivity innovation and emphasized that while GEO remains the backbone of their network, the integration of LEO satellites such as Telesat Lightspeed, scheduled for late 2027, will expand coverage and capacity in the Arctic and other remote regions.
This strategic deployment reflects Viasat's commitment to enhancing passenger experience through advanced satellite technology and sophisticated network management, aiming to meet the evolving needs of business aviation globally.
