Vietjet Thailand has launched its new Green Route service connecting Bangkok and Phu Quoc, emphasizing environmental sustainability in aviation. The inaugural flight on November 6 at Suvarnabhumi Airport was attended by officials, including representatives from the Vietnamese and Thai governments, highlighting the significance of this initiative in promoting responsible travel.
Chiefly, the route is powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) developed from renewable sources such as used cooking oil. This marks the airline’s second such route after Da Nang in 2024, and it reflects the airline’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in line with international aviation standards.
Vietjet’s Fly Green program advances Thailand’s broader sustainability goals, with the airline aiming for a five-percent SAF blend across all operations by 2030. Each SAF flight can eliminate approximately 250 kilograms of CO₂ emissions, contributing to a projection of surpassing 150,000 tonnes of reduced emissions over six years. Woranate Laprabang, the airline’s CEO, emphasized that this strategy balances operational growth with ecological responsibility, enhancing Thailand’s leadership in sustainable tourism and low-carbon aviation practices.
Supported by Thailand’s bio-resource infrastructure and public-private partnerships, the initiative promotes eco-friendly practices across the aviation sector. It also aligns with the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s efforts to attract Vietnamese visitors and promote the country as a responsible tourism destination.
