Vietnam Airlines has announced a substantial order for fifty Boeing B737-8 jets, marking a significant step in the airline's fleet modernization strategy. The deal follows a non-binding agreement signed during a high-profile visit and is scheduled for deliveries between 2030 and 2032. Backed by financing from various financial institutions, including U.S. and domestic banks, the airline plans to enhance its operational capacity on domestic and regional routes within Asia.

According to the airline's leadership, this investment aims to build a fuel-efficient fleet that supports expansion goals. The fleet's upgrade is part of a broader plan to boost international connectivity, with the carrier also exploring future acquisitions of widebody aircraft such as Airbus A350-900s or Boeing B787-9s to strengthen its long-haul operations.

Strategic Fleet Growth

Currently operating a diverse fleet, Vietnam Airlines is targeting a total of approximately 151 aircraft by 2030. The airline’s existing fleet includes Airbus A320 and A321 variants as well as Boeing B787 models, positioning it well for regional and international growth.

"This purchase is a vital step towards building a modern, fuel-efficient fleet while supporting our expansion strategy," stated Dang Ngoc Hoa, the airline’s chairman. The company’s ongoing negotiations for additional widebody aircraft are expected to bolster its international network in the coming years.
