Vietnam and the Netherlands are actively expanding their cooperation in the maritime and aviation sectors, with a focus on sustainable development and connectivity. During a recent meeting in Hanoi, officials from both countries discussed opportunities to enhance port infrastructure, launch direct flight routes, and exchange technological expertise to modernize transportation systems.
Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Construction, Nguyen Xuan Sang, emphasized the country’s strategic position as a coastal nation with significant maritime port development plans. Agreements signed between the nations include mutual recognition of seafarers' certificates and cooperation in maritime training, leveraging Dutch leadership in global maritime transport and inland waterways.
In aviation, despite signed agreements and a large market potential, direct flight routes between Vietnam and the Netherlands are yet to be established. Passenger traffic in recent years has increased notably, reaching over 122,000 in 2024, underlining the importance of stronger air connectivity. Officials expressed mutual interest in facilitating direct flights and enhancing air traffic management cooperation.
Dutch enterprises are keen to expand investments, especially in logistics, seaports, and infrastructure projects such as the Lach Huyen and Cai Mep ports. Both sides agreed to maintain ongoing dialogue and support joint projects through international forums like ICAO and IMO, striving for sustainable growth and green port development that benefits both nations.
