Vietnam has made a significant advancement in its aviation infrastructure by successfully conducting a comprehensive technical test flight at Long Thanh International Airport. The centerpiece of this effort was the landing of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a modern and large-capacity aircraft suited for international flights, which verified the airport’s capacity to handle such aircraft safely and efficiently.
The test involved extensive coordination among relevant authorities, including Vietnam Airlines, the Southern Airports Authority, and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation. It examined key operational elements such as runway, taxiways, apron, and air traffic control systems, ensuring compliance with global safety and operational standards.
The landing of the Boeing 787 was hailed as a crucial milestone, demonstrating that Long Thanh Airport possesses the infrastructure and systems required to support large, advanced aircraft. Following this successful trial, the airport is expected to begin commercial flights later this month, starting with a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 from Hanoi. Other airlines, including Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways, plan to operate flights from Tan Son Nhat airport to Long Thanh using Airbus aircraft, carrying only crew and technical staff initially.
The completion of these tests marks a key step toward fully operationalizing Long Thanh Airport, positioning it as a major hub for both domestic and international travel. Authorities remain confident that the airport’s infrastructure will support smooth and safe airline operations, paving the way for Vietnam’s expanding aviation sector to meet future demands.
