Vietnam’s civil aviation industry achieved a historic milestone in 2025 by transporting a record 83.5 million passengers, marking a 10.7 per cent increase compared to the previous year. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam attributed this growth to expanded international routes and a rebound in tourism, which saw over 20 million international visitors arriving in the country.
The domestic flight network includes about 55 routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with 20 airports nationwide, while Vietnamese airlines operate 113 international routes linking Vietnam with major hubs across Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
Despite challenges such as reduced fleet size due to engine recall orders and infrastructure congestion at key airports, the sector continues to grow. The industry is expected to serve approximately 95 million passengers and handle over 1.6 million tonnes of cargo in 2026, with future expansion facilitated by the upcoming Long Thanh International Airport, designed to ease pressure on existing facilities.
This impressive recovery underscores Vietnam’s strategic position as a rising aviation hub in Southeast Asia, supported by government policies encouraging foreign airline participation and route expansion. The industry’s robust performance signals further growth prospects in the coming years, driven by ongoing infrastructure development and tourism recovery.
