Vietnam’s aviation sector has experienced significant growth with the launch of Sun PhuQuoc Airways, marking Vietnam’s entry into the leisure airline market. Launched on November 1, 2025, the airline, part of the Sun Group, began operations by connecting Phu Quoc with major Vietnamese cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The airline’s inaugural flight featured 220 passengers aboard an Airbus A321, departing from Noi Bai International Airport at 7:15 a.m. The event was celebrated with a water cannon salute and a special onboard entertainment, emphasizing the importance of this milestone for the island's connectivity.
Looking ahead, Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to expand its network in 2026, introducing routes from Da Nang and Nha Trang to Phu Quoc, along with international flights to destinations including South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and India. This strategic expansion aims to position Phu Quoc as a major aviation hub and promote sustainable tourism growth. The airline’s efforts to offer affordable travel options are expected to boost tourism, especially during the peak seasons and festive periods like Lunar New Year.
Community Engagement and Celebrations
On the day of launch, passengers enjoyed pastries from the renowned French bakery Eric Kayser, which opened its first store in Phu Quoc’s Sunset Town. Additionally, onboard travelers experienced live musical performances, enhancing the festive atmosphere of the inaugural flights. The airline also symbolized the occasion with pilot-dressed teddy bears greeting arriving passengers, further fostering a vibrant community spirit.
The development signifies a new chapter for Vietnam’s aviation industry, tying economic growth with increased global accessibility to Phu Quoc and other Vietnamese destinations. With plans for international expansion, Sun PhuQuoc Airways is poised to become a key player in Southeast Asia’s dynamic travel landscape, supporting Vietnam’s growing tourism ambitions and regional connectivity.
