Mexican airlines Volaris and Viva have announced an agreement to create a new airline group structured as a holding company. The move aims to expand low-cost travel options and improve connectivity within Mexico and internationally. Both airlines will continue operating under their current brands and independent certificates, emphasizing a merger of equals.

According to officials, the alliance is expected to generate economies of scale, lowering fleet ownership costs and improving access to capital. This will enable the carriers to enhance their service offerings, providing more affordable fares to a broader customer base. The strategic partnership is also intended to strengthen their competitive position in both domestic and international markets.

Leadership Perspectives

“The formation of this new airline group will allow us to realize significant growth opportunities for air travel in Mexico, aligned with our low-fare, point-to-point approach,”

said Enrique Beltranena, President and CEO of Volaris.

Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva, highlighted their ongoing commitment to the low-cost model, stating, “Our passengers value our point-to-point networks, customer service, and low fares, making this strategy crucial for sustained growth and passenger loyalty.”

Both airlines aim to use their combined scale to offer ultra-low-cost fares, expand their market reach, and deliver more flights at lower costs. This strategic alliance marks a significant step in Mexico’s aviation industry toward greater affordability and access for travelers.
