A graduate of Western Michigan University's College of Aviation is preparing to begin her professional career as an operations coordinator at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one of the busiest in the world. Her journey underscores the importance of industry engagement and academic excellence, with her success rooted in the comprehensive training and community support provided by WMU.

Waddell's passion for aviation originated in her childhood in Chicago, where she was captivated by the busy terminals at O’Hare Airport. Her dedication led her to pursue a degree in aviation management and operations, during which she actively participated in student organizations, including the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals. Her leadership and achievements earned her a prestigious Foundation Scholarship, further facilitating her educational and career pursuits.

Building the Path to Industry Success

Throughout her time at WMU, Waddell took advantage of numerous opportunities to grow his professional network through career fairs, conferences, and campus events. Her involvement in student organizations and leadership roles, such as vice president of OBAP’s chapter and president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, helped develop her organizational and leadership skills.

“Western was the right choice for me because I was able to find a sense of community that nurtured all aspects of everything that I embodied as a person,” said Waddell.

Her experience reflects WMU’s dedication to preparing students for real-world aviation careers, emphasizing not only technical proficiency but also leadership, mentorship, and community engagement.
