Wizz Air, Central and Eastern Europe’s leading low-cost airline, has announced a partnership with the upcoming inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship scheduled to take place in Budapest from September 11 to 13, 2026. The airline will serve as the official carrier, supporting the event’s logistics and connectivity for athletes, officials, and stakeholders. The partnership aims to enhance the visibility of both organizations and facilitate international travel for the competition.
The World Athletics Ultimate Championship is designed as a high-performance, fan-focused sporting event that will feature approximately 400 top athletes from around 70 countries, including Olympic and world champions, competing in a condensed and intense format. The event aims to bring together the best in track and field, creating a new biennial competition that emphasizes elite performance and global engagement.

According to World Athletics President Sebastian Coe, Wizz Air’s role will be vital in ensuring efficient travel arrangements, connecting athletes and fans across Europe and beyond. Balázs Fürjes, the Co-Chair of the Budapest Organising Committee, highlighted Budapest’s reputation as a global sports city and expressed pride in hosting this groundbreaking contest alongside Wizz Air. Silvia Mosquera, Wizz Air’s Commercial Officer, emphasized the airline’s commitment to bringing international talent to Budapest and inspiring global audiences through this collaboration.
As part of the partnership, athletes will receive Wizz Air travel vouchers, promoting enhanced athlete engagement and brand exposure. The event aims to elevate the profile of athletics and foster stronger commercial ties between sports and airline industries, especially as international travel infrastructure becomes more integral to global sporting events.
