Following the conclusion of the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) 2026, Zambia's Civil Aviation Authority (ZCAA) has emphasized the importance of strengthening aviation connectivity and capacity development across the continent. The symposium, which brought together over 1,400 participants from more than 100 countries, resulted in a series of commitments aimed at improving safety, security, and sustainability in aviation.
Captain Derrick Luembe, the Director General of ZCAA, highlighted the need for increased investment in training, partnerships, and knowledge exchange to support sustainable growth in Africa’s aviation industry. He also noted Zambia’s progress in aviation training standards, citing the achievement of the Southern Africa Institute of Aviation Science and Technology Limited attaining Bronze Membership under ICAO’s TRAINAIR PLUS Programme.

At the international level, ICAO Council President Toshiyuki Onuma urged stakeholders to transform commitments into measurable actions, emphasizing that aviation’s future depends on effective implementation and strong collaborations. The symposium underscored a collective focus on strengthening global aviation systems, ensuring ICAO compliance, and fostering the development of the next generation of aviation professionals.
