ZIPAIR Tokyo is actively exploring expansion opportunities to serve the US East Coast, as part of its strategic focus on increasing its presence in Asia and North America. According to President Yasuhiro Fukada, the airline remains confident in its growth plans despite current restrictions overflying Russia, which have delayed potential routes to Europe.
The airline intends to expand its fleet to more than 20 aircraft within the next five years, with its fleet currently consisting of Boeing 787-8s. ZIPAIR plans to add its ninth aircraft in autumn 2026 and its tenth in early 2027. Although larger Boeing 787-9s may be better suited for ultra-long-haul routes, the company has emphasized that overall fleet size and operational flexibility are more critical factors in route planning.
Fukada stated that ZIPAIR is evaluating new destinations across the transpacific network, prioritizing passenger demand and potential market size rather than just business travel. The airline's focus continues to be on strengthening its core markets, and it does not see Europe as a near-term goal until overflight issues are resolved.
Looking ahead, ZIPAIR is committed to deploying its fleet strategically, with future plans to transfer Boeing 787-9 aircraft from Japan Airlines and enhance its route network. The airline aims to support its growth with flexible schedules and an expanding fleet to meet rising passenger demand in the coming years.
