Avianca traces its history to SCADTA, founded on 5 December 1919, making it one of the oldest airlines in the world. It is part of Abra Group and, according to its April 2026 traffic report, is a Star Alliance member alongside LifeMiles, Avianca Cargo and Wamos Air. Its registered office is in Barranquilla and its corporate headquarters is in Bogotá. It emerged from its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2021.
Bogotá is the main hub. Wikipedia lists Cali, Cartagena and Medellín as secondary hubs, and Barranquilla, Miami, San José (Costa Rica) and Quito as focus cities. The airline describes itself as leading in Colombia, Ecuador and Central America. It reports more than 160 routes and over 700 daily flights, connecting more than 80 destinations in 27 countries across the Americas and Europe. It carried nearly 37 million customers in 2025.
The April 2026 traffic report gives a passenger operating fleet of 14 widebody and 135 narrowbody aircraft:
Avianca's own description cites a fleet of 164 Airbus family and Boeing 787 aircraft overall. The separate Wamos Air and Avianca Cargo fleets are reported separately.
Avianca sells Economy fares (Basic, Classic and Flex) and Business Class. Seat pitch, meal service, entertainment and Wi-Fi details were not confirmed from sources and vary by aircraft and route, so check them on the airline's website before booking.
