Overview

Gulf Air is the flag carrier of Bahrain. According to Wikipedia, it was founded on 24 March 1950 as Gulf Aviation, is headquartered in Muharraq and is owned by Gulf Air Holding B.S.C. The airline is not a member of a major alliance. Its frequent-flyer programme is Falconflyer.

Network and hubs

The hub is Bahrain International Airport. The airline serves about 65 destinations in 38 countries across Africa, Asia and Europe, and Dubai is its busiest route, with more than 95 weekly flights (Wikipedia).

Operations were disrupted in 2026. Travel Radar reports that passenger flights ran from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, in March. The National reported a gradual resumption at Bahrain after airspace reopened in April, and Arab Times reported a phased restoration of international destinations from 1 May 2026. Wego says Bahrain–Kuala Lumpur reopened for booking from 29 September 2026. Travellers should check the current schedule.

Fleet

Wikipedia lists a fleet of 46 aircraft in 2026: Airbus A320, A321 and A320neo family narrow-bodies, and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner wide-bodies. TradeArabia covers ongoing fleet renewal with the A321neo.

Gulf Air sells Economy and Business cabins. Seat pitch, meal and entertainment details vary by aircraft and are not confirmed here, so check the airline's site for the aircraft on your route.

Good to know

• Baggage: allowances depend on route and fare. Check gulfair.com when booking.
• Lounges: the Falcon Gold Lounge operates in Bahrain, with lounges in London and Dubai. The airline says free access does not apply on flights operated by other carriers, including Gulf Air codeshares.
• Loyalty: Falconflyer members of Black, Gold and Silver tiers have lounge access, according to One Mile at a Time.
• Disruption: schedules were still being restored after the 2026 airspace closure, so confirm your flight before travelling.
