Overview

ZIPAIR Tokyo Inc. is a Japanese low-cost airline and a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Airlines (JAL). According to Wikipedia, it was founded in 2018 and is headquartered at Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture. It began flying as a cargo-only operator on 3 June 2020, and passenger flights started on 16 October 2020. It is not a member of an airline alliance. Its frequent-flyer programme is called Zipair Point Club.

Network and hubs

Narita is the only base. The route list on Wikipedia, dated March 2026, shows these destinations:

  • Asia: Seoul Incheon, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Singapore Changi.
  • United States: Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and Houston (from March 2025).
  • Canada: Vancouver (from March 2024).

The Manila route ended on 28 March 2026. A charter to Orlando ran briefly in February and March 2026. A Kuala Lumpur route is planned to start on 20 October 2026, according to a ZIPAIR announcement.

Fleet

Wikipedia lists eight Boeing 787-8 aircraft in service, six of them leased from JAL. Each has 290 seats. A further ten Boeing 787-9s are planned, to be leased from JAL with deliveries from fiscal 2027, according to ch-aviation. Fleet figures are as of the 2025–2026 Wikipedia listing and may have changed.

On board

There are two seat types. ZIP Full Flat has 18 seats on the 787-8, and Standard has 272. Standard is the economy-style seat. There are no seatback screens. Entertainment can be streamed to a passenger's own device, and Wi-Fi is free. Meals, drinks, amenities and goods are sold on board whichever seat is chosen.

Good to know

  • As a low-cost carrier, ZIPAIR charges for extras such as additional baggage. Check the allowance for the chosen fare on the official website before travelling.
  • Bring or pre-order food, because no meal is included in the fare.
  • Download or prepare entertainment for your own device.
  • The loyalty programme is Zipair Point Club. No alliance lounge access applies, because the airline has no alliance membership.
  • Flights use Narita, which is outside central Tokyo.
