In a significant development for the Chinese aviation maintenance sector, Air China and Rolls-Royce have announced the completion of Beijing Aero Engine Services (BAESL), a joint venture dedicated to engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, situated in Beijing Capital Airport.
Following a groundbreaking in 2023, the CNY2.2 billion (USD315.4 million) facility is set to induct its first engine in December 2025, with full operational capabilities expected by early 2026. The site will service Trent 700, Trent XWB-84, and Trent 1000 engines, supporting Air China's fleet of widebody aircraft and reducing reliance on overseas MRO centers.
This initiative marks Rolls-Royce's fourth global MRO joint venture and its first in mainland China, aiming to facilitate approximately 250 engine shop visits annually by the mid-2030s. The partnership is part of a strategic effort to bolster domestic aircraft engine maintenance capacity and foster industry growth in China.
"BAESL represents a milestone in China’s civil aviation growth and technological advancement," said a spokesperson from Rolls-Royce. "This facility will ensure high standards of engine maintenance and support for Air China's expanding fleet."
