Air China is scheduled to resume weekly passenger flights between Beijing Capital and Pyongyang starting March 30, 2026. This route, which has been suspended since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, marks a step towards re-establishing international connectivity for the airline, which operates a fleet of about 540 aircraft serving 218 destinations.
In addition to the route to North Korea, Air China is set to expand its long-haul operations from Beijing Daxing International Airport. Beginning April 28, the airline will introduce new daily services to Frankfurt International Airport, utilizing Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Furthermore, from June 13, services to Milan Malpensa will commence, operated with Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
Strategic Network Expansion
The planned service expansion aligns with broader industry recovery efforts, highlighting a return to international routes that were temporarily halted during the pandemic. Air China's focus on increasing flight frequency and resuming key international links demonstrates a strategic move to meet rising passenger demand as global travel restrictions ease.
The airline's increased capacity and route offerings are expected to bolster its competitive position within Asia and internationally, supporting economic and tourism recoveries. Industry observers view these developments as positive indicators for the broader airline sector's post-pandemic revival.
