The airline industry continues to evolve with several carriers announcing new routes, increased services, and temporary suspensions across global markets. Wizz Air is establishing a new base at Turin, Italy, supporting multiple new destinations and capacity upgrades. Similarly, Etihad Airways is expanding flights to Chicago and Kabul, reflecting strong passenger demand. Cabo Verde Airlines is returning to Recife, Brazil, after years of absence, highlighting its effort to enhance international connectivity.

In Europe, Iberia Express resumes seasonal service to Reykjavik, while Malaysia Airlines is expanding its Asian network with new routes to Shenzhen, Changsha, and Fukuoka. AnimaWings will launch a direct connection between Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and Thessaloniki, Greece, operating twice weekly with Airbus A220-300 aircraft. Uzbekistan's Centrum Air plans to introduce daily flights from Tashkent to Antalya during the summer, a popular leisure destination.

Service Adjustments and Market Response

Some airlines are adjusting operations in response to geopolitical tensions and rising fuel prices. AirAsia and AirAsia X are suspending ten routes across Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Qantas is modifying its Sydney-Paris flight, routing via Singapore temporarily. Meanwhile, carriers like Scoot are increasing frequencies and launching new routes in Southeast Asia, Europe, and North Asia to meet rising demand. Notably, Starlux Airlines will start Taipei-Denpasar-Bali flights to support transit traffic and tourism.

"These route changes demonstrate airlines’ adaptability in addressing market opportunities and geopolitical considerations," said industry analysts.

Overall, the current airline strategies reflect a combination of expansion, seasonal adjustments, and response to market dynamics, aiming to enhance connectivity and optimize capacity across key regions in 2026.
