Enaer, the Chilean state-owned aerospace firm, has successfully delivered its first prototype of the T-40 Newen primary trainer aircraft to the Chilean Air Force during a ceremony held at the FIDAE air show on April 6. The event marked a significant milestone in Chile's military aviation sector, emphasizing the country’s efforts toward indigenous aircraft development.
The T-40 prototype is scheduled to undertake its maiden flight next year, paving the way for subsequent series production of up to 33 aircraft. The Chilean Air Force aims to modernize its training fleet with this new aircraft, which is designed to enhance pilot training capabilities and replace aging trainer models. The program underscores Chile's intent to strengthen its aerospace self-reliance and technological innovation.
Officials from the Ministry of Defense and Enaer representatives participated in the delivery ceremony, highlighting the national importance of this project. The successful completion of this milestone is expected to position the T-40 as a vital component of the Chilean military’s modernization plans, contributing to the development of local aerospace expertise and expanding Chile’s defense capabilities.
