FedEx Express, along with Challenge Group, Atlas Air, Teleport, and AeroLogic, plans to begin freighter operations at the new Mumbai D. B. Patil Airport (Navi Mumbai) by May 2026. This transition includes a nine-month suspension of cargo flights at Mumbai International Airport starting in August 2026 to upgrade the airside facilities.
In parallel, FedEx and Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. have started construction on an INR 25 billion (USD 274.9 million) cargo facility scheduled for completion in 2028. Covering 27,870 square metres, the new hub aims to serve as a major regional cargo consolidation centre, reinforcing India's logistical infrastructure and supporting expanding freight demand in the Asia-Pacific region.
This development highlights the strategic focus of global logistics companies on India’s growing economy and the importance of modern freight infrastructure for regional and international trade. The project is expected to significantly enhance cargo throughput and service reliability for operators in this critical logistics corridor.
