Qantas is preparing to establish a new record in ultra-long-haul aviation with a planned non-stop flight from London to Sydney in 2027. Covering approximately 10,600 miles, the flight will take around 22 hours, making it the longest direct commercial flight in history. This route aims to eliminate stopovers and significantly reduce travel time, saving passengers up to four hours compared to current itineraries with layovers in cities such as Singapore or Dubai.
The airline’s new service is part of its “Project Sunrise” initiative, which includes the introduction of the Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft. These advanced planes feature a 20,000-litre fuel tank, enabling continuous flight over unmatched distances at speeds nearing Mach 0.85. Inside, passengers will enjoy luxurious cabins comprising first-class suites, business, premium economy, and economy sections, designed to optimize comfort during the lengthy journey.
Passenger Well-being and Comfort
Qantas is also introducing wellness-focused amenities, such as a Wellbeing Zone with guided content and healthy refreshments. Additionally, specially tailored lighting and meal schedules aim to help travelers combat jet lag, ensuring they arrive rested and refreshed. This new route not only exemplifies technological innovation but also emphasizes passenger experience, setting a new standard for ultra-long-haul flights and redefining international travel standards.
