Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will become the first airline in Africa to fit Starlink inflight connectivity, according to AeroTime, which reported the plan on 11 October 2026. The Moroccan flag carrier intends to equip 41 aircraft, with the first installations expected to be completed by early 2027. Members of its Safar Flyer loyalty programme are due to get the service free of charge.

What has been announced

AeroTime reports that Royal Air Maroc will offer SpaceX's satellite-based broadband service, described as high-speed and low-latency, on 41 of its aircraft. The report says the service will be provided at no cost to Safar Flyer members. It does not say what non-members will pay, or whether they will be able to use it at all.

Which aircraft could be fitted

No specific aircraft types have been confirmed. AeroTime says it appears likely the programme will include the long-haul fleet of 13 Boeing 787s, both -8 and -9 variants, along with a large share of the 47 Boeing 737s in the fleet. These comprise 27 737-800s and 20 737 MAX 8s, with another 14 MAX 8s awaiting delivery. This is AeroTime's inference rather than an airline statement.

Citing ch-aviation data, AeroTime says RAM operates 76 aircraft as of October 2026, a figure that includes VIP, cargo and inactive aircraft. The outlet adds that the fleet is expected to grow as the airline aims to strengthen its role as a connector between Africa, Europe and North America. It notes that in April 2024 RAM was reported to be looking to acquire 200 aircraft, although no new orders have followed since.

What this means for travellers

  • Timing: Installations are expected to be completed by early 2027, so Wi-Fi is unlikely to be available across the fleet before then. Fitting is likely to be gradual.
  • Loyalty members: Safar Flyer members are due to receive the service free. Joining the programme may therefore be worthwhile before flying.
  • Aircraft and routes: Because the fitted aircraft types and routes have not been confirmed, travellers cannot yet be sure that a particular flight from Casablanca will have Starlink. Checking the airline's details before booking will be sensible once installations begin.
  • Not yet known: Pricing for non-members and the installation schedule by aircraft type have not been published in the source reporting.

For passengers comparing carriers on Africa-Europe and transatlantic routes, the plan could make connectivity a stronger selling point for RAM, though the practical effect will depend on which aircraft receive the equipment.
