Thai SmartLynx, an ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) airline affiliated with Avia Solutions Group, has officially received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority. This achievement positions the airline as the first in Thailand to operate under the new TCAR OPS regulations, modeled after European aviation standards, which govern safety, crew, and operational procedures.
The carrier plans to begin operations using an Airbus A320 aircraft based at Don Mueang International Airport, with a strategic plan to increase its fleet by 15 to 20 aircraft over the next several years. The company’s focus is on offering flexible leasing solutions to regional airlines, enabling them to expand capacity during busy seasons or test new markets without major capital expenditure.
Significance and Future Outlook
Chairman Martynas Grigas highlighted the significance of the milestone, stating that Thai SmartLynx aims to pioneer innovative capacity solutions within Thailand, helping airlines optimize their networks and improve profitability by an estimated 2-3% through strategic leasing models.
The certification is timely, coinciding with the upcoming peak travel season, as tourists from Europe and Asia seek winter escapes. The airline’s expansion plans and regulatory approval are expected to make a notable contribution to Thailand’s aviation sector and regional connectivity.
