Peraton has been chosen as the sole integrator in the ambitious U.S. Transportation Department (DOT) plan to upgrade the country’s air traffic control (ATC) infrastructure by 2029, the agency announced late Dec. 4. The company, with extensive experience in the defense and federal IT arenas, is expected to play a central role in deploying new automation, surveillance, and communication technologies across the national airspace system.
The DOT emphasized that Peraton’s involvement underscores a commitment to leveraging innovative solutions and industry expertise to modernize the nation’s aviation infrastructure. The project aims to support increased safety, capacity, and resilience in air traffic management as traffic volumes are forecasted to grow significantly over the coming years.
Strategic Goals and Implementation
Officials highlighted that the modernization effort aligns with broader digital transformation initiatives within the aviation sector. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been actively collaborating with stakeholders to define the modernization roadmap, with Peraton positioned as a key system integrator. The goal is to have comprehensive upgrades completed by 2029, ensuring the system is prepared for future demands and security needs.
"Modernizing our air traffic control infrastructure is critical for supporting the country's aviation industry and ensuring safety," said the DOT spokesperson.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the resilience, efficiency, and technological capabilities of the national airspace network, enabling the U.S. to meet future air traffic challenges effectively.
