Overview

HK Express (Hong Kong Express Airways Limited, IATA UO) is a Hong Kong low-cost carrier. According to Wikipedia, the company was incorporated in March 2004, began scheduled flights in September 2005 and relaunched as a low-cost carrier in 2013. It is now fully owned by Cathay Pacific. The head office is at Cathay House, Hong Kong International Airport. It is not a member of an airline alliance. Its frequent-flyer programme is listed as Asia Miles.

Network and hubs

The sole hub is Hong Kong International Airport. Wikipedia lists around 27 to 29 destinations, all in Asia: mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia. Japan has the largest spread of cities, including Tokyo (Haneda and Narita), Osaka, Fukuoka, Naha and Ishigaki. Other points include Seoul Incheon, Taipei, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Phuket, Da Nang, Manila and Kota Kinabalu. The airline has a codeshare agreement with Cathay Pacific.

Fleet

The fleet is exclusively Airbus A320 family. As of December 2025, Wikipedia lists 42 aircraft in service:

  • 6 Airbus A320-200 (180 seats)
  • 10 Airbus A320neo (188 seats), with 8 on order
  • 10 Airbus A321-200 (230 seats)
  • 16 Airbus A321neo (236 seats), with 10 on order

The first A321neo was delivered in March 2023. Deliveries of the remaining orders run through 2029.

On board

HK Express operates a single economy cabin. As with other low-cost carriers, extras vary by fare. Seat pitch, entertainment and Wi-Fi details were not confirmed in the sources reviewed, so check the airline website before booking.

Good to know

  • Baggage: the conditions of carriage state that carry-on and checked allowances depend on the fare. Some fares include no checked bag, which can be bought for a fee. Purchased checked allowances are normally 20 kg or 32 kg, and no single bag over 32 kg is accepted. A third-party summary gives a carry-on limit of 7 kg plus a personal item.
  • Fees and extras: excess baggage is charged. Some fares exclude carry-on baggage, which then has to be added at the initial booking for a fee.
  • Loyalty: Asia Miles is the listed frequent-flyer programme.
