Canadian leisure carrier Air Transat has stopped flying to seven international cities in 2026, according to Cirium data cited by Simple Flying on 1 November 2026. Most of the cuts affect short-haul routes, and one is a longer service to Europe. Passengers booked to any of these destinations should check their booking status.

The seven destinations

Simple Flying's account, based on Cirium figures, identifies the following cities:

  • Reykjavík Keflavík, Iceland: a seasonal route from Montréal-Trudeau, which ran from 16 June to 20 September.
  • Guadalajara, Mexico: flights from Toronto ended in April after one season.
  • Varadero, Cuba: served from Montréal, Quebec City and Toronto.
  • Cayo Coco, Cuba
  • Holguín, Cuba
  • Santa Clara, Cuba
  • Orlando, Florida: flights ended in May.

Why the routes were cut

Simple Flying says airlines worldwide have been reviewing their networks this year because of higher operating costs linked to fuel price rises amid the US-Israeli attacks on Iran. It describes Air Transat as one example, though not the only carrier making difficult decisions.

The four Cuban cities lost service in February. Simple Flying says Air Canada and WestJet have also stopped flying to Cuba. It cites a jet fuel shortage as a key driver, as reported by the BBC at the time, which it links to the US blockade on Venezuela, from which Cuba gets most of its fuel. Air Transat had used Airbus A321LR and A330-300 aircraft on its Cuba flights.

On Orlando, Simple Flying points to weaker demand for Canada-US travel amid tariff tensions between the two countries. The airline had served the city from two bases with A321-200 and A321LR aircraft. In 2026 it flew there 69 times from Montréal and 25 times from Quebec City.

The Reykjavík service began in June, running up to twice a week on Airbus narrowbodies. It faced seasonal competition from Air Canada, which flies to Keflavík from Toronto; Icelandair also serves Toronto and Vancouver. According to Cirium schedules cited by Simple Flying, Air Transat does not plan to bring the route back next summer.

What this means for travellers

  • Anyone holding a booking to one of the seven cities should check it with Air Transat or their travel agent, as some of these routes have already ended and others are not planned to return.
  • Travellers who want Iceland next summer will not find Air Transat flying there, based on current Cirium schedule data. Air Canada and Icelandair serve Canada-Iceland routes.
  • For Cuba, Air Canada and WestJet have also stopped flying there, according to Simple Flying, so alternatives from the major Canadian carriers may be limited.
  • Simple Flying says it will be interesting to see whether Orlando returns if relations improve, but no return has been announced in the source.
