Senai International Airport (JHB), Johor Bahru

The airport at a glance

• Senai International Airport (JHB) handled 3,360,906 passengers in 2024, up 11.7% on 2023 (2,702,307 domestic and 658,599 international). Its pre-pandemic peak was 4,254,922 passengers in 2019.
• The main airlines are the AirAsia group (AirAsia, Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia), Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, Batik Air Malaysia and TransNusa. AirAsia is the operating base.
• The airport is in Senai, Kulai District, about 22 km north-west of Johor Bahru city centre. It is operated by Senai Airport Terminal Services, a unit of MMC Corporation, and has a 3,800 m runway.
• It is used by many travellers from Singapore, which is about 43 km away. Most flights are domestic services within Malaysia, and international routes are limited.

Getting into Johor Bahru

• Bus: the Causeway Link AA1 airport shuttle runs between the airport and JB Sentral, next to the Malaysia–Singapore checkpoint at Johor Bahru. The journey takes about 45 minutes in good traffic, up to about 50 minutes.
• AA1 buses run roughly hourly. The fare is RM8. Buy tickets at the Causeway Link counter inside the Aeromall in the terminal, or online at causewaylink.com.my.
• The older route to Larkin Sentral has been suspended since 15 October 2022. The AA1 goes to JB Sentral only.
• To Singapore: take the AA1 to JB Sentral, then change to a cross-border bus operated by Causeway Link, SBS Transit, SMRT or Transtar.
• There is no rail link to the airport. Taxis and ride-hailing (Grab) are the other options, and the trip to the city centre is about 25–30 km.

Arriving in Malaysia

• Most foreign visitors must complete the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online before landing. It has been mandatory since 1 January 2024 and can be submitted up to three days before arrival.
• Exempt groups include Singapore citizens, Malaysian citizens and permanent residents, diplomatic and official passport holders, and Thai border-pass holders. Visa rules depend on nationality, so check the Immigration Department of Malaysia before travelling.

Money, luggage and services

• Money exchange: a Maybank bureau de change is at Lot GL8 on the ground floor of the terminal. Maybank, CIMB, AmBank, Bank Islam and Bank Muamalat also have ATMs on the ground floor.
• Left luggage: Locker & Lock is at Lot ET02 on the ground floor of the terminal.
• Rest and relaxation: massage chairs and two foot reflexology outlets (Lot GL4A on the ground floor and Lot FF9 in the departure hall) are in the terminal.
• Airport Wi-Fi is unavailable. Buy a SIM card in town or arrange mobile data before arrival. For flight enquiries, call the airport on +607 599 4500.

What's coming

• Following an upgrade, the airport operator said in October 2023 that capacity would rise from four million to seven million passengers a year by 2030. This followed the RM11.9 million expansion completed in October 2023, which added five departure gates and covered walkways.
