Air Serbia will launch year-round flights between Belgrade (BEG) and Miami (MIA) on 20 May 2027, according to One Mile at a Time. The service will run twice a week with an Airbus A330-200 and will become the airline's third destination in the United States and fourth in North America.

Schedule and aircraft

One Mile at a Time reports that the 5,475-mile route will operate on Thursdays and Sundays, with different timings on each day. Flights are numbered JU502 from Belgrade and JU503 from Miami.

  • Thursday: JU502 departs Belgrade at 1:50pm and arrives in Miami at 7:50pm. JU503 departs Miami at 10:30pm and arrives in Belgrade at 3:00pm the next day.
  • Sunday: JU502 departs Belgrade at 11:30am and arrives at 5:30pm. JU503 departs Miami at 7:00pm and arrives in Belgrade at 11:30am the next day.

The flight is blocked at 12 hours westbound and 10 hours 30 minutes eastbound. Air Serbia has four A330-200s in its fleet, and the source says it will use this type on the route. The airline's other North American destinations are Chicago (ORD), New York (JFK) and Toronto (YYZ).

Why Miami

The source says airline executives have discussed a Miami service for years and suggests the main constraint was the number of aircraft available. It argues that Miami has strong year-round transatlantic demand, with summer demand out of the city and winter demand into it. It also notes that South Florida has a large Russian population and that Serbia is not in the EU, which the author says makes Air Serbia a convenient one-stop option for those passengers.

One Mile at a Time adds that Air Serbia has built a strong network in eastern and southern Europe, with connections to places such as Albania, Armenia, Croatia, Georgia and Romania.

Frequency and product

The author sees the twice-weekly schedule as the route's biggest challenge. Many travellers book long-haul return trips through online travel agencies, and may not see Air Serbia unless they search the right days in both directions. The review describes the onboard product, including business class, as pleasant but unremarkable.

What this means for travellers

  • Bookings and fares are not covered in the source, so it is not yet clear when tickets will go on sale or what they will cost.
  • Travellers need to be flexible: departures are only on Thursdays and Sundays, and timings differ between the two days, so check both days when searching.
  • The route offers a one-stop option between Florida and Belgrade, and onward connections to other destinations in eastern and southern Europe.
  • Air Serbia has a partnership with Air Canada, so in theory Aeroplan points can be redeemed on its flights. One Mile at a Time cautions that business class award space can be hard to find, and it is not stated whether Miami flights will be bookable this way. See the Air Canada page for more on the carrier.
