In early 2026, the aviation industry saw a significant wave of route launches and service adjustments across multiple continents, reflecting the ongoing recovery and expansion of global air travel networks. Edelweiss announced seasonal flights between Zurich and Glasgow, while Zurich to Kefallinia will also commence, offering leisure travelers additional options. Meanwhile, Polish airline LOT is shifting its focus, discontinuing flights to London City but increasing capacity on its Vilnius–Warsaw route for the upcoming summer season.

In Western Europe, Air Europa is launching new flights from Madrid to Geneva, enhancing connectivity for passengers traveling between Spain and Switzerland. In North America, Breeze Airways is adding new routes within the US to serve growing demand, including a service linking Stewart International Airport to Raleigh-Durham.

Expanding International Routes

Southern Turkey's Pegasus Airlines is launching a route to Erbil, Iraq, operating twice weekly with Airbus A320 aircraft. Wizz Air continues to expand across Europe with new summer routes, including connections from Naples to Palma, Milan to Bilbao, and multiple routes within Bulgaria, supporting inbound tourism and regional connectivity.

Asia and the Middle East also witnessed key developments. AirAsia X plans to resume flights from Kuala Lumpur to Busan, South Korea, and Saudia is initiating a route from Riyadh to Kozhikode in India. LATAM Bellator airlines will restart seasonal flights from São Paulo to Ushuaia, conditional on regulatory approval, catering to winter tourism. Additionally, Etihad Airways is set to launch its first nonstop service to Luxembourg, targeting the Luxembourg diaspora and regional markets.

Wizz Air revealed plans to expand its Spanish network further, adding routes and increasing frequencies between major cities. Malaysia Airlines restored service to Chengdu, China, supporting partnerships and travel arrangements.

This evolving network activity highlights airlines' strategies to enhance connectivity, support tourism, and respond to market demands in 2026.
