In March 2026, several airlines will introduce new routes or increase service frequencies, reflecting expansion in their international networks. Iberia is set to launch a daily Madrid-Newark route using Airbus A321XLR aircraft, further strengthening its foothold in North America. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways will operate Boeing 787-9 flights connecting Abu Dhabi with Charlotte, marking the airport’s sole nonstop link to the Middle East and Etihad's debut in the U.S. Southeast region.

In Europe, Aeromexico plans to revive its Mexico City-Barcelona route with Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft, offering six weekly flights and increasing frequencies for summer 2026. Virgin Atlantic will also commence daily service from London Heathrow to Seoul Incheon, utilizing Boeing 787-9 aircraft, creating a new nonstop market between the UK and South Korea. Additionally, China Southern Airlines will operate three weekly flights from Beijing Daxing to Helsinki with Boeing 787-9 aircraft, increasing to daily later in the season, providing a new nonstop connection between China and Finland.

European Market Expansion

In the UK, Jet2 will open a new base at London Gatwick, with flights to Tenerife starting in late March. The new base will support 29 leisure routes, positioning Jet2 in competition with easyJet and British Airways Euroflyer and intensifying the short-haul leisure market ahead of the summer peak.

This wave of route launches reflects airlines' strategic efforts to expand their offerings, boost capacity, and capitalize on the northern summer travel season, with significant developments across several key markets and regions.

April will thus see notable growth and competition in international air travel, with passengers benefiting from increased options and improved connectivity globally.
